The season started a week ago, and LFC got off to a start with an away win at the Black Cats. 3 points were obtained with a second half stunner from distance by Torres.
This time around, Boro came a calling to Anfield, and with a new look electronic advertising board to usher in the new season, looked set to be a cracker. But most of the action was even-sided with Boro not letting the Reds settle, and giving it a go themselves. Of course, 20 mins from the end, they were rewarded when Mido smashed one in to stun the home crowd.
I was sure glad when we responded with some good chances of our own. A Xabi cross was handled, and surprisingly, ref Riley played on. The ball ended up at Carragher's feet, and he duly smashed it goalwards. A sweet deflection turned it in, to setup a nerve wrangling last few minutes.
Deep deep into injury time 94th minute), in came a cross from Xabi, and with defender Huth only managing to glance it away from Keane, it bounced into Stevie G's path. A cracking of a screamer into the top corner set off Anfield to celebrations galore. I'd say we won it ugly, but i'll take it as it's sure better then dropping points at home.
