Legend passes on.....

R.I.P. Actor Paul Newman, Dead at 83

Sad news to report today as legendary actor Paul Newman finally lost his battle with lung cancer, passing away at the age of 83 in his Westport, Connecticut yesterday. With an impressive resume of films that includes Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Hustler, Exodus and Road to Perdition, Newman officially retired from acting in 2007, and his fight with the disease was made public a few months ago.

Newman's last film appearance was providing the voice of Doc Hudson in Disney/Pixar's 2006 hit Cars, which ironically had just had its sequel announced for a summer 2011 release.

Although Newman had been nominated for an Academy Award ten times in his lengthy career, he only won once for 1987's Color of Money, just a year after being bestowed with an Honorary Award. Newman's last live action film appearance was Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition for which Newman would receive his final Oscar nomination.

Newman leaves behind his wife of fifty years, actress Joanne Woodward, with whom he had three children, his Newman's Own food empire, which was also based in Westport, as well as hundreds of great movie classics that will never be forgotten.

FUCK

there's no better word to describe the feeling now. I came back from badminton today, sat at my comp, and was browsing the net, when i came upon some very startling, but no unexpected, news; which is summed up in the article below from Malaysia-Today:

Raja Petra Kamarudin sent to Kamunting to begin two-year detention under ISA

KUALA LUMPUR (NST) : Malaysia Today owner and blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin was sent to Kamunting Detention Centre in Perak this morning to begin his two-year detention under the Internal Security Act after the Home Ministry issued an order under Section 8 of the Act, signed by the Home Minister yesterday evening. This was confirmed by Raja Petra's wife Marina Lee Abdullah at the courthouse this morning. Marina said she was informed by Bukit Aman's DSP Ibrahim through a phone call at 9am.
Marina also said no decision was made on her husband's submission of habeas corpus today. She said judge Suraya Othman had ordered that Raja Petra submit a written submission to be heard on Oct 28.
Raja Petra, 58, was picked up at his house in Sungai Buloh at 1.10 pm on Sept 12. He was reportedly detained in the wake of various statements published in his blog “Malaysia Today".
On the day of his arrest, Raja Petra’s wife Marina Lee Abdullah said 10 policemen came to the house and detained her husband at 1.10pm and took him away at 1.50pm

Seriously, this is what u get for telling the truth? this is what u get for sharing your views and comments that aren't inline with the governments "policies"??
FUCK.

and now the naysayers will be out in full force...

Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Premiership debutants Stoke City, after a 8-day high fresh from beating Man U and Marseille. Not for the want of trying, as Stevie G had an early goal wrongfully disallowed for offside, and we had a total of 24 shots on goal, plus over 20 corners.

Keeper Sorenson wasn't all that busy, it's just some crazy defending from the Stoke back four. When Torres had a superb shot crash against the side of the defenders head and went over, i just knew then that no mater what we tried, it was going to be 2 points dropped.

And straight away the same media who were touting it to be our year (no one from LFC targeted the title yet) are already writing us off for the season. Suits us! Now for Everton, the best platform for Gerrard to hit the 100 mark!

woo hoo finally

so after many years(many many many....) of using my faithful Yasica racquet, i finally went and got me a proper one. Thanks to Joel for helping me pick it out, and to George for taking me there and then telling me to add RM 20 for a better one, and then RM 30 for another better one, and add more for another better one! HA..... heheh

surprisingly the staff at Young Ones said that to string the racquet would be fast (ready by 8pm) instead of the usual 2-3 day cooling off period.

so here it is hehehe

Looking forward to testing it out on Monday... but Sai Nam.. go easy on me ok... me only small fish compared to the Lin Nam!!

Off to a good start in Europe

Marseille turned out to be as challenging a place as any to go to. Good fight, but class shone thru.
Stevie G stepped up to deliver to goals after we went behind. A nailbiting last 30 minutes also didn't help as Marseille came close in the dying minutes, but Pepe stood tall!

Going to be a tough place for Atletico and PSV to come to, but i'm glad we got out with 3 points in the bag.

Happy Birthday Yao Ming!

heheh.. sorry it's belated... but here's wishing a Happy Birthday (belated posting ... hehe) for the George!

My first time at this restaurant.. but seems to be his regular hangout.... and now i know why.. nice place, setting is ok, and even food is nice! (only complaint is serving is slightly small, but is ok cos the cake afterwards made up for it!)

After that we all (well most of us, except this fellar..>) headed off to a cute
little seaside bistro in Ferringghi called Sunset Bistro.
Wow that's a cool place. Nice beach, great winds blowing, and the surf was refreshing. Oh special mention to the music that was playing. Hit the sweet spot.

Of course, what outing wouldn't be complete without drinks!

That's right folks, out came the Lassi's, milkshakes n juices. made the night complete. How was the outcome? have a look below.... that's we were seeing all night....

sweet victory over bitter oppponents

Liverpool have registered a well earned 2-1 victory over historical rivals Manchester United. I feared the worst when Tevez scored real early for the Mancs to lead. It was worse as i was still in the office, and not being able to follow the action.

Thankfully, live updates from Livescore and Uerosport websites allowed me to consistently keep tabs on the ongoings.

A dodgy own goal allowed us to get back on level terms.
Van Der Sar pushed the ball onto Wes Brown's shin, and with Riera pressuring, there was no outcome then back into his own goal.

GAME ON!!

The second half belonged to us. The Mancs were pushed back, and could not cope with the pace. Eventually, we scored to go ahead with Keane, Kuyt and Babel combining quite nicely to put the Reds ahead.

The Mancs could not catch up, and when Vidic was sent marching with a second bookable offense, it was over! The Reds hung on to claim a famous victory against a side that not only beat us since the last 3 years, but against the defending champs.

Some of my MU fan friends, were gracious in accepting defeat, but for a couple of them, here's a message...: Hardip, n Naresh: Glory Glory who?? yeah right. At least sms when losing also la. Not just send "nyeh nyeh' message when claiming victories..

Oh yeah, to think that we played attacking footie, without our 2 top stars. It can only get better from here.

a simple diinner

Friday was my sweethearts 27th celebration of the day she was born. So being on a working day, i couldn't whisk her off her feet for a getaway weekend, we settled for dinner. We decided to swing by Spice N Rice along Light Street, for some North Indian (some call it fusion indian) cuisine. And as it was friday night, there was even a Jazz trio playing live. Hhmm all added to an enjoyable evening.

Here's she is looking all hungry ..'wonder how long do they take huh?"

Of course, since the camera is out, and the food hadn't arrived, she of course was more then willing to model for me.... luv u dear...
But me thinks in time, she may take over the reins of the camera from me...
Aah.... dinner is here.... we had some rice, a bread, chicken n vege's... all in all made for a sumptuous meal.
The lady of the night is content, and awaiting her masala tea... and pondering over desert maybe?

Yeay .....

Hurricanes a' coming.....

No i'm not referring to the Hurrican Ike that's lashing on the shores of the Lone Star state, but to the peoples disgust and anger at being treated like numbnuts by the government. The latest spate of arrests under the ISA of political watchdog Raja Petra Kamaruddin (www.malaysia-today.net), Teresa Kok(Seputeh MP -DAP) and Tan Hoon Cheng(Sin Chew Daily reporter) over so-called racism and racial tension issues in the country.

UMNO has really lost the plot. It's actions show that they are afraid, and to stop the takeover planned by PKR, they're creating this tense situation in the country by arresting media and oppsition. I'm sure there'll be more arrests to come.

How stupid do they think the people are? I just pray that some nut doesn't play into the plans, and start to go voilent. That's all they need to issue en emergency, to crack down on people and instill fear that their way of government is right.

watch this space....

Rockstars!!

Every once in a long while.. you come across a hindi movie that manages to make u say "That was AWESOME!!!"

I just watched Rock On!!, a new release starring Arjun Rampal and introducing usually director-this time- actor Farhan Akhtar, supported by an ensemble of talented actors. This semi small budget flick comes up tops with stellar acting, a great story line, incredibly fresh music/songs (hats off to Shankar,Ehsan,Loy), at good pace and is very well done.

Even my Jaanu loved it a lot. I'd really recommend this movie, as it's not the run-of-mill love/revenge story you usually get. Actually, i'd put my neck on the line, by going as far as calling this one a candidate for best picture of the year (next to The Dark Knight, of course). If you decide to pick only 5 movies to watch this year, make this one of them, whether you understand hindi or not. (PS: heard that they are planning to re-release this movie in English for international market.. hhmmm)

4.5 stars!!

unsung hero bids farewell

some players get all the fame, while some get all the luck. Irish international Steve Finnan was one of those who quietly do a lot of hard work to get results. Never one to be vocal, Finnan was an integral member of the Reds squad, winning the 2005 UEFA Champions League and 2006 FA Cup winner's medal.

As announced on the new clubs website, he is now moving to Espanyol on a 2 year deal, after good service to the Reds for 5 years.

Good luck.
